Why I became a doctor?
I originally trained as an EMT and after I lost a dear friend through a tragic accident, I knew I wanted to become a doctor. It wasn't until several years later, while visiting friends in Wyoming, that I was introduced to Naturopathic Medicine. It felt like destiny to become an ND! It brought together my desire to practice medicine, my love for plants, and my inquisitive mind. It was also very similar to the medicine I grew up with back home in Germany and felt very nurturing. From then on, it was a love affair with natural medicine. Little did I know that it would be a huge part of my own personal healing journey…
While in my first year in Naturopathic Medical school, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Unfortunately, I felt like I couldn’t go on. Thankfully, I had an amazing mentor, Dr Fitzpatrick, who guided me through diet and gut healing protocols that allowed me to continue with my training. This journey is what pulled me into chronic complex medicine as I was told by many doctors that “it was all in my head” and I was dealing with “medical student syndrome.” I don’t ever want anyone else to feel like their symptoms aren’t real or that they are just making it up! With the help of naturopathic medicine, I was eventually diagnosed with Celiac and Lyme disease. I have since learned to appreciate the balance my body requires to maintain a very active lifestyle, free of symptoms. Now, I get to share this amazing medicine with others and help them to get back to their lives with a great quality of life.
One of my huge passions in life is patient education and patient empowerment. I love educating people about their bodies and taking back control in understanding what their bodies are trying to communicate to them.
