Urinary Toxic Metals Test Kit Instructions | Doctors Data
Urinary Toxic Metals (UTM) testing through Doctors Data measures heavy metals such as mercury, lead, arsenic, and cadmium. This handout is designed primarily as a step-by-step preparation and collection guide to help you complete your test kit accurately and confidently.
At Nourish Medical Center, we use both provoked and non-provoked urinary toxic metals testing to assess exposure patterns and overall body burden. This resource focuses specifically on how to prepare for and properly complete your kit to ensure reliable results.
Important Testing Note
There are two versions of urinary toxic metals testing:
• Non-provoked testing is generally used to assess more recent or acute exposure.
• Provoked testing uses a prescribed mobilizing agent and is typically preferred for evaluating long-term body burden.
In some cases, a comprehensive evaluation may involve completing both an unprovoked and a provoked test, which would require two separate test kits performed at different times.
This handout does not determine which option is appropriate for you — it serves as a practical guide for whichever kit you have been instructed to complete from your Nourish doctor.
Inside This Guide:
• Clear instructions for completing your specific test kit
• Preparation guidelines, including foods, supplements, and medications to pause or avoid
• Step-by-step urine collection instructions
• Timing considerations for provoked testing
• Tips to help prevent collection errors and ensure accurate laboratory results
The goal of this guide is to make the testing process straightforward and stress-free while maximizing accuracy.
Who This Is For:
• Individuals completing a Doctors Data urinary toxic metals (UTM) test
• Patients preparing for provoked or non-provoked urine collection
• Those wanting to ensure proper test preparation for accurate results
