Sports Performance & Recovery

Whole-Body Support for Athletes

Whether you’re training for your next competition, performing at an elite level, traveling for an event, or simply trying to recover better, your health affects your performance.

At Nourish Medical Center in San Diego, our doctors take a whole-body approach to athlete health and recovery. We look beyond the injury or symptom to evaluate the factors that can influence performance—including nutrition, nutrient status, hormones, digestion, sleep, stress, inflammation, immune health and recovery.

We work with recreational, competitive and elite athletes, dancers, active adults and sports professionals who want individualized medical support designed around the demands of their training and lifestyle.

Who We Support

Strength and power athletes

Athletes traveling to San Diego for training or competition

Runners, cyclists and endurance athletes

Sports Nutrition & Nutrient Status

Training places unique nutritional demands on the body.

Our doctors can evaluate dietary intake, nutrient status and laboratory findings to help identify areas that may affect energy, recovery and overall health.

Areas of evaluation may include iron and ferritin, vitamin D, B vitamins, electrolytes, protein intake and other individualized nutritional needs.

Fatigue, Energy & Recovery

Persistent fatigue, declining performance or unusually slow recovery can have many potential causes.

We can evaluate contributing factors such as nutrient deficiencies, thyroid function, sleep, stress, hormonal health, inflammation and overtraining.

Digestive & GI Health

GI symptoms can significantly affect athletes, particularly during periods of intense training and travel.

We evaluate concerns such as:

Bloating

Reflux

Changes in bowel habits

Food reactions

Digestive symptoms that interfere with nutrition, comfort or performance

Women’s Health & Athletic Performance

Female athletes have additional considerations related to menstrual health, iron status, bone health and hormonal balance.

Our doctors can evaluate concerns including:

Irregular or absent menstrual cycles

Fatigue

Low iron or ferritin

Hormonal symptoms

Sleep, Stress & Travel Recovery

Sleep disruption, time-zone changes, competition schedules and frequent travel can affect both performance and recovery.

We can help athletes develop individualized strategies to support:

Sleep

Circadian rhythm

Stress resilience

Travel recovery

Preparation before and after competition

Laboratory Testing

When appropriate, our doctors can use laboratory testing to evaluate factors that may be contributing to fatigue, poor recovery or changes in performance.
Testing is individualized and may include:

Nutritional markers

Iron studies

Thyroid testing

Metabolic markers

Hormone evaluation

Other clinically appropriate testing

Musculoskeletal & Recovery Support

Depending on the athlete’s needs, our team may also incorporate medical evaluation and regenerative or recovery-focused therapies as part of a broader treatment plan.

For acute or significant injuries, we work collaboratively with the athlete’s orthopedic doctor, sports medicine doctor, physical therapist, athletic trainer or other healthcare professionals when appropriate.

Supplements & Competitive Athletes

Competitive athletes need to be particularly careful when using supplements, medications and certain medical treatments.

Our doctors can review an athlete’s current medications and supplement regimen with anti-doping considerations in mind and help identify areas that may warrant additional verification.

Athletes who are subject to anti-doping rules remain responsible for confirming that medications, supplements and treatments comply with the requirements of their sport and governing organization.

V Nutrient Therapy & Athletes

Nourish Medical Center offers doctor-directed nutrient IV therapy when medically appropriate.

Competitive athletes subject to anti-doping regulations have additional restrictions surrounding intravenous infusions. Because of this, IV therapy for a drug-tested athlete requires individualized medical evaluation and consideration of the athlete’s applicable anti-doping rules before treatment.

IV nutrient therapy may also be available for coaches, staff, support personnel and other individuals when medically appropriate.
